I'm not black and I'm not a woman, so I can't speak to how offensive Don Imus's comments were or what is an appropriate punishment, but listening to ESPN Radio you'd think he just sold out the human race to the Cylons. I just find it so hard to take ESPN's coverage of media matters seriously with the way they covered Michael Irvin and Sean Salibury's comments in the last few months. Is it really that big of a story or are they using the opportunity to take shots at NBC, who got the better slate of games on Sunday Night Football this year than ESPN who paid much more for Monday Night Football?
As an aside, the #1 play from yesterday on SportsCenter was from the first quarter of an Arena Football game, ahead of a great Dave Roberts catch to preserve a no hitter. Last offseason ESPN became a partner with the Arena Football League.

sure his comments were offensive, but people are also overreacting. sometimes people just say the wrong thing at the wrong time, and bring a shitstorm down on themselves.
michael wilbon says imus has a history of racist comments. so? maybe i'm in the minority here (heh) but i don't find "nappy headed hos" particularly racist.... that's not the point, though. if you're going to be outraged, be outraged at *all* his racist/sexist/offensive comments. to me, though, it seems like the outrage is just at this one comment, not in the context of all the others, and i think that's silly.
so his target was a comparatively innocent women's basketball team... so? why are people giving so much weight to his comment? it's not like this guy is the arbiter of popular opinion. what's the big effing deal?
